M.S. in Ophthalmology is a postgraduate course in medicine that involves an advanced study of the anatomy, physiology and diseases of the eye. An Ophthalmologist is a specialist in medical and surgical eye problems. The curriculum includes components such as Orbital and Ocular Anatomy, Gross anatomy, Histology, Ocular Physiology, Ocular Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology in relation to Ocular Immunology.

Enrolled students are also offered opportunities for ophthalmologic research in clinical surgery settings such as fine microsurgery, using the operating microscope, and intraocular surgery or vitreoretinal surgery of the eye.

Generally, the duration of the course is 2 years. Successful postgraduates of the course are offered an average annual salary ranging between INR 60,000 and 1 lakh monthly.
