MBBS admission for NRI Quota in NEET gives students residing outside India an opportunity to return to their homeland and practice medicine. MBBS Admission 2024 Eligibility Criteria for NRI Students

Here are the eligibility requirements that NRI quota students need to meet to apply for MBBS colleges in India. 

• Valid Passport Holder: Candidates applying for NEET UG 2024 must hold a valid passport. 

• Only for Bonafide NRI Candidates: The offered NRI seats in govt medical colleges and private institutes under NRI Quota will only be allocated to Bonafide NRI candidates. 

• NEET 2024 Qualified: Candidates must have qualified for NEET 2024

• NRI Sponsorship Criteria: Candidates applying under NRI sponsorship must have a real blood relation to the financial supporter, be it the mother, sister, father, brother, aunt or uncle. 

• PCB Core Subjects with 60% Marks: Candidates also need to pass their class 12 exam with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or an equivalent exam with at least 60% marks or above. 

• Age Criteria: There is a minimum age limit of NRI quota candidates which is 17 years along with a maximum age limit of 25 years.

MBBS Admission for NRI Students: State-wise NRI Quota Seats

In India, there are a total of five states offering NRI seats in govt medical colleges and private institutes. These states are Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Pondicherry.  The fee charged by different colleges for MBBS also differs from state to state. Government colleges charge the lowest NRI fees for MBBS in India. While some states have a fee structure where students need to pay $12,500 annually as their college tuition fees, there are some states that charge $30,000 in the form of tuition fees from NRI quota in NEET students. 

NRI students who manage to secure a seat but do not claim it and leave it vacant will be transferred to the existing state quota under either the state category or any other reserved category. Since the number of students applying for the NRI seats is low, the cut-off marks for these colleges are also comparatively low owing to less competition. 

MBBS Admission for NRI Students: State-wise Fee Structure

• In the state of Himachal Pradesh, the fees structure in government medical colleges is $20,000. This is one of the lowest NRI fees for MBBS in India.

• When it comes to Haryana, the fee structure for NRI students studying an MBBS course in government colleges is approximately $25,000 during the time of getting admission. They also need to pay an additional amount of $12,500 annually for the four upcoming years.

• In Rajasthan, the fee structure for NRI candidates studying in government medical colleges underwent a revision in the year 2020. After the subsequent changes were made, candidates are now required to deposit $30,000 during the time of admission and then pay $15,000 separately per semester.

• In the state of Puducherry, NRI students studying at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute are required to pay $100,000 for the entire course. Out of this, $15,000 is considered a caution deposit which is a refundable amount. 

• Other than the NRI quota in government medical colleges, these states also have NRI quotas for NRI students to various private medical colleges.

• There are also some states such as Gujarat, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu that provide NRI students with self-financed course seats. All the deemed medical colleges and universities offer a 15% reservation quota for students who are non-residential Indians and the counselling is carried out by NCC.
