Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Mangalore was established under the aegis of the Manipal University on 30 June 1953. The Manipal Group is a pioneer in higher education with over 60-years of legacy in excellence. The group also owns campuses in Sikkim and Jaipur in India and in Nepal, Malaysia, and Antigua. Manipal University is synonymous with excellence in higher education. The University is an ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001: 2004 certified institution. It has won the prestigious IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Award and the International Asia Pacific Quality Award in 2007- 2008. In 1958, when the first batch of students was graduated, KMC was granted recognition by the Medical Council of India. It has also got recognition from the General Medical Council of Great Britain, the Malaysian Medical Council and United States Medical Licensing Examination Board in the later years. The KMC became a full-fledged independent college in 1969, when a pre-clinical section was started. Before this the students had to go to Mangalore for their clinical training.

Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Mangalore under University campus or better call it as a University town is nestled on a plateau in Karnataka’s Udupi district. The vast sprawling campus accommodates over 28,000 students - from 57 different countries. They live here, learn and play happily. It also houses over 2700 faculty and other supporting service staff. The campus caters to the needs of staff working in two colleges and 24 professional institutions in medicine, engineering, management and humanities.It is a Wi-Fi-enabled campus. There is an indoor sports complex MARENA with five badminton courts, four squash courts, three tennis courts, a basketball court, a hi-tech gym and a walking track. Direct admissions are done on the basis of the All India overall rank obtained in the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2021. Eligibility
Eligibility to the admission to undergraduate course MBBS is a pass in 10+2 with minimum 50% of marks in aggregate with Chemistry and Biology as compulsory subjects.
